IN THE MOOD NON TOXIC SKINCARE & MAKEUP

As you know from several of my posts like Cosmetics Chemical Truth, I am a non toxic brand pioneer and champion, having started one 9 years ago. This makes me really picky as shown with my post about Gwyneth Paltrow’s goop Juice Beauty being elitist in pricing. Now, there are many non toxic beauty product brands. Beautycounter products, for example, include none of the chemicals I avoid. They are priced lower than goop Juice Beauty, Tata Harper, Kjaer Weis; yet higher than W3ll People, Burt’s Bees, Yes to Carrots, Shea Moisture, Dr. Bronner’s, S.W.Basics, and similar to Jurlique, RMS, REN clean skincare, BITE beauty, ILIA makeup, Smith & Cult nail polish, Nonesuch, Makanai, Josie Maran, Honest Beauty. When you consider options, some are a bit high priced for what they are; after all H&M has a conscious beauty line now all under $13.

I applaud all these brands for being non toxic. There are many excellent effective non toxic options. I love my ILIA Polka Dots + Moon Beams Illuminator (daughter, I know you took it and please return it). I have tried some of the Beautycounter products and while they all were lovely, I didn’t fall in love with any of them. That doesn’t mean you won’t like them. Not everything works on everybody. In fact I encourage you to try it and support a company that is trying to do the right thing. Please comment below with your own experiences. I gave the exfoliating pads to my teenage daughter who likes them. The eye cream made no visible difference to my dark circles or fine lines but then again nothing does except a heavy dose of extra sleep. The lightest eyeshadow duo Pearl/Champagne $34 is perfect for my pale skin, and level of pearl on par with my new favorite $6 Almay mentioned in a previous post (which a friend commented on Moodsey as being similar to her favorite and pricier Estee Lauder eyeshadow).

I will be trying another non toxic brand next. It is the new UK skincare brand The Ordinary. Their facial oils are pure ingredients nothing more. I’m excited that they are back in stock! My order is on its way and so is my Moodsey product review of them. Here is my previous post about The Ordinary $6 facial serums. I’m tempted to consider trying the new Australian brand Coast to Coast and their $65 Kakadu Plum recovery Radiance Serum with desert lime because it sounds delicious. The Australian Kakadu plum apparently has 55 times more vitamin c than a Florida orange. Does anyone squeeze orange juice onto their face? It has a long ingredient list including hyaluronic acid which I already get from my beloved brand CeraVe at CVS for $8.
Stay tuned.

I have the Think Dirty app that is free and alerts me to potentially toxic ingredients while shopping, all you do is scan bar codes. My moto: less is more. So I try to find products with the least ingredients, like The Ordinary.

Skincare tip: beneficial ingredients instantly become unstable when exposed to air and light via jars so go for the tubes.

Moodsey is about sharing not selling and does not receive proceeds from purchase of these recommended brands.

Wow great information!!! For the last nine months I have been using First Aid Beauty (aka FAB) 5 in 1 Face Cream SPF 30. It retails at Sephora for $40. I bought it because it has Zinc Oxide which is really a great defense against ultraviolet rays and because I have very dry skin. This moisturizer is not greasy and keeps my face hydrated all day; great investment.

Very excited to read this piece. There’s so much good information that I printed it out for reference. Non toxic cosmetics have been high on my list of priorities. I have tried many Beauty Counter products and while they are not organic in nature they are an alternative. I like their mask and oils and agree that the eye cream did nothing. Always enjoy your posts on Moodsey… the Think Dirty app is just a reminder that I always get something out of the read!

Another one to try is Arbonne. A friend of mine in the UK is a sales representative – and the products were good although on the higher-end (but probably not any pricier than the more expensive brands you list above). It’s here in the states and I have another friend in Darien who sells it. I’m intrigued by the Ordinary as I’ve become obsessed with facial oil and, at the rate I use it, it’s becoming cost prohibitive!

Had to share this….just discovered Boscia exfoliating peel gel. As pure as you can find on the shelf. Sold in Sephora but, I’m sure you can find it online. Product is easy to use. Apply in the morning (don’t wet your face) — just a dab…work into your skin and watch before your eyes…old, dead and dry skin rub off….

My skin looks amazingly bright and refreshed. Just saved myself $175.
