IN THE MOOD FOR PREP

Adding some edge has kept me from feeling my age, but I am a prep at heart and still love my classics. Vineyard Vines, J.MacLaughlin, LLBean, Lilly Pulitzer, Jack Rogers are go tos. A new one is Sail to Sable. For their above pictured cute red fit and flare dress click HERE. Also, an online prep store that I love is Tuckernuck. New for Spring: Jane straw clam and Mia clutches, Tortoise and Horn link necklaces, Striped bass needlepoint hat, Pom Pom basket and Pink Ibiza totes, jigsaw flats that look just like Chloe ballet slippers. Click here to browse at Tnuck. My friend and I were talking about her upcoming summer in Nantucket and while I was admitting that...

IN THE MOOD …DRESS YOUR AGE!? ADVICE

"Indeed, the older you get, the less you can do prim, girlish, preppy, and cute, and the more you can do defined, striking, architectural, and subtle." This quote is from an article that originally appeared in the April 2015 issue of Harper's BAZAAR by Lisa Armstrong the Fashion Director of The Telegraph. While this article is a year old I mention it because this theme is still prevalent in the media. I just read one that told me at my age I should wear a swimsuit with sleeves because I really should be covering myself up. In 90 degrees. I am not sure what some of the terms above mean: defined (does that require a lot of black?), striking...

IN THE MOOD…COSMETICS CHEMICAL TRUTH

Even Target is getting on the "safe" beauty product bandwagon. This Fall they will collaborate with Beautycounter for $12+ "free of potentially harmful ingredients" beauty products. Beautycounter is a Santa Monica startup focused on delivering safe products. After my post In The Mood For Cleansing I decided to follow up on the ingredients of one popular cleanser Cetaphil. I was concerned with what I found, three parabens. We all know that what we put on our skin is absorbed by our bodies. My concerns are potential cancer causing ingredients as well as endocrine disruptors. It is time consuming to read labels and most people don't know the truly bad chemicals to avoid. I am no natural...

IN THE MOOD FOR ITALIAN CHIC

Valentino SS16 Georgette shirt with necklace I dedicate this post to my beautiful Italian mother. Happy Mother's day! Everyone seems to have a fascination with French style. My very first luxury purchase was not French but Italian. Gucci. So why do we seem to overlook the Italians? I was thinking about writing a post about it and then stumbled upon this article The Italians Are Coming! In it Leandra has already done the work for me by listing the top 3 upcoming Italian design stars to watch. I think these three brands are also ones to watch. (1) Only 5 year old Aquazzura - The creator Edgardo Osorio was actually born in Colombia and raised between Miami and London but the...

IN THE MOOD FOR SOMETHING ENGLISH (ORLEBAR BROWN)

Coveteur image I spent a semester abroad in London while in college and lived in the Notting Hill area so when I read about this English brand Orlebar Brown via The Coveteur (the founder Adam lives in Notting Hill), I was curious to learn more. I like the simplicity and elegance of Adam's swimwear designs for women. I could see Kate Moss, Victoria Beckham, Cara Delevingne in them. As a former photographer Adam has found a new outlet for his creative talent. The men's swim shorts are so simple that they could easily be worn after swim to a restaurant and not just at a beach resort. Also there are fun options, such as in the photo...

IN THE MOOD…TRANSITION SCARF (DONNI CHARM)

Let's hope this is Spring's last big chill. Here is a photo of a 20 year old in a casual outfit that looks perfect for now and any age - especially if the cold continues. It is the perfect time to get some use of our cozy scarves and wraps. I really like this brand Donni Charm, and can relate to its creation as dedication to the founder's beloved dad. Here is a summary from the brand's site. MEET DONNI CHARM: NOT YOUR AVERAGE SCARF. KEEPING NECKS WARM & HEARTS HAPPY (AND VICE VERSA). EACH ONE TOUCHED WITH A HIDDEN ANGEL WING CHARM AS A REMINDER OF LUCK AND LOVE. IN MEMORY OF A VERY SPECIAL DAD...

IN THE MOOD FOR SOMETHING FRENCH (CLARINS)

Claire, one of the grand-daughters of the Clarins founder, recently moved to NYC. When I was an executive for Clarins, I found the chemists and team in France to be impressive. I love that each Clarins product is a unique cocktail of all-natural rare plant extracts delivering on an ethos of nurturing luxurious skin care. Requesting samples before purchase and booking a divine Clarins facial at a spa location is highly recommended, but don't expect the typical extraction approach or any fancy scraping tools. Theirs is different. Expect lymphatic oil massage using warm compresses to facilitate the draining of toxins and impurities. The purest plant extracts and aromatic essential oils are used. If you are in the...
