A magazine editor told me that accessories are more important than clothes. Maybe two things are most important– accessories (handbags, shoes, outerwear) and tops. Most of the time we are sitting down so what is seen is our top. Even when we are standing most time is spent looking at a person’s torso. Why is it a challenge to find great tops? Fall, Winter are sweater seasons but we don’t need the bulk or extra warmth for going out at night so there is still a need for an embellished or interesting neckline or pop of color top. Click here for the three most flattering types of tops according to a celebrity stylist (but sadly I am not fond of any of them) Tara Swennen Flattering Tops. Click here White Keyhole blouse for a similar style to the one I featuerd here In The Mood For a Redo Again which is sold out and no longer available at both Topshop and Nordstrom. Here is the white Chloé off the shoulder in the slideshow. I bet this style will be copied a lot. Here is another version of the popular SS16 off the shoulder style, in black and blush ($72 vs. $1,850 for Chloe) or a short sleeve Leighton style in white Modern Citizen Avery off shoulder tie blouse.

I love the Modern Citizen blouse – but it’s sold out (so clearly others do, too). Can you recommend similar tops? Thanks!!

Hi! So glad you like my post. The Avery & Leighton are available both in white and chambray. Btw did you know that Modern Citizen is run entirely by women?

Awesome! Girl power. Another question. Yes, I know. What to do about a bra w/the off-shoulder look??

A simple strapless bandeau is best! They are very inexpensive at Forever21 and comfortable.

I’ve never heard of Modern Citizen and LOVE! What are some of your other favorite sites to shop for clothes?
