IN THE MOOD … LESS GYM TIME, MORE RESULTS

It's now been clinically demonstrated that 1 minute of all out exercise may equal 45 minutes of moderate exertion. Please keep in mind that the sample size for this study was small and all male. Also, of course as we all know, there are benefits to other forms of exercise: serotonin release, camaraderie, cardiovascular fitness, fun, muscle bulk and definition, etc. Plus diet is always key. I've never loved High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) like burpees or mountain climbers, but after reading the New York Times article reporting this news, I do now have a new appreciation for them. They are not easy but quick. I separately read that doing 8 reps of squats for 20 seconds...

IN THE MOOD FOR ABS (LILY ALDRIDGE)

In my previous post Proof #1 (Age & Fitness) it was commented that as we age "we have to work for it". This is so true. Breaks from the gym are ok. Many of us were just completely thrown off schedule due to the school Spring break, and luckily only 5% of muscle is lost every two weeks. Although every % lost is painful given the amount of effort required to build it. I don't build muscle easily and rarely get around to working my abs. With summer approaching I am in the mood to focus on them. So I asked my health and wellness coach friend Adele Bonnie for some recommendations. She suggested that I check out "Strong Curves"...

IN THE MOOD FOR WORKOUT MUSIC (PITBULL & ENRIQUE)

I met someone who knew Pitbull before his glory days and he said that the music Pitbull produces now is pretty much the same as his music when he started. There is so much talent in NY and LA. Regardless of your feeling about Pitbull as a musician, how refreshing is it to hear that an artist has supposedly remained true to himself and his vision, despite the struggles and time it takes for many to achieve success. This is an observation that I think can relate to many not just musicians. As I was driving home I heard Pitbull's new song "Messin' Around" with Enrique Iglesias. I will definitely add this to my workout playlist. It's a fun song....

IN THE MOOD FOR A WELLNESS REBOOT

I started a wellness reboot program with a great group of like minded ladies. We are led by a knowledgeable leader and my fabulous new friend. So far I have quit my chemically processed decaf coffee habit, learned about the benefits of meditation, and have been eating cleaner plus drinking much more water (thanks to this new BPA free infusion water bottle that enables so many delicious naturally flavored water options - this week it's organic pear, honeydew and mint). I've also tried some very healthy green juices (spinach, kale, ginger etc.). I have always started my day the same way as Jennifer Aniston, by washing my face and applying moisturizer/oil plus sunscreen. I have added sipping a cup of...

IN THE MOOD FOR ACTIVEWEAR THAT TRACKS HEART RATE, CALORIES COUNTED, ETC.

pcmag image why smart clothes still need work I've been wondering why there aren't mainstream options for activewear that tracks heart rate, calories counted, steps taken, and real time input about proper or improper form. There is such a thing as a "smart bra". I just haven't heard of anyone actually buying smart clothes not even the "smart bra". Surprisingly, it's fashion (or lack thereof) not the technical aspect holding back this innovation. For an interesting short article about it click Here. I'll keep my ear to the ground and post again when this gets figured out....

IN THE MOOD FOR THE NEXT HOT SWEAT

The Cut, Russell Bateman image There is a new British exercise wave that could make its way here soon. It is called the SBC (Skinny Bitch Collective, no joke). This is an invitation only workout club and while it is not Cross Fit sounds just as demanding and potentially similarly cult like as SoulCycle. Click Here for more info. I really like the creator (and only teacher) Russell Bateman's philosophy: “Train with all your heart and with diversity; challenge and embrace your human side; be playful; have more (bleep); cut out (bleepy) boyfriends or (bleep); eat wild meat, vegetables, berries, fermented food and butter; be honest; tell people you love them."...
