IN THE MOOD FOR A TREND (ANOREXIC SCARF)

The anorexic scarf is a current trend. I keep seeing it in photographs so I went to a store to try it out. The idea is to wrap it like a choker then low knotted or draped. It looked dreadful on me.  So I did not get the scarf. However, a few days later I tried tying my classic men's navy Brooks Brothers cashmere scarf similarly. This worked. When I showed the skinny scarf look to my husband he said he thinks it is a trend that is trying way too hard and in a few years it will seem really silly. He is no fashionista yet he has a point. Sometimes our inspiration should remain just that. Who What...

IN THE MOOD FOR A GADGET (SMART JUMP ROPE)

There is a jump rope called Smart Rope for $90 that has an LED projector. It counts strokes in front of your face as you exercise and sounds really cool. Available in chrome, gold, black and with colored grip handles, a tracking app that counts calories burned and more.  It seems over the top but maybe that's the point. Could it make me better at jump rope? It wouldn't take much I am terrible at it. This is a great form of exercise that does not require a gym and it could be a fun new gadget. Click here Smart Rope...

IN THE MOOD FOR ZING (MASCARA & FALSE EYELASHES)

The endorphin rush from applying fresh mascara is similar to how I feel after getting my hair done. The littlest thing can make a big difference. Mascara is inexpensive and should be discarded frequently plus there are so many options that if you are using the same one repeatedly you are missing out on cosmetic entertainment. If you really want zing then you can step up to false eyelashes. I have to admit before my daughter became a dancer and had to wear them for stage performances, I used to think of false eyelashes as being cheesy because they can look so in your face obviously fake. Now I think that if a few individual fake lashes strategically placed...

IN THE MOOD FOR POWER (FOUNDATION + SKINCARE)

My mother saw Cindy Crawford on TV selling her beauty products. She asked me about the makeup with hyaluronic acid/SPF 50. I reminded her that she can get a lovely lightweight moisturizing lotion at CVS or Target for $8.00, CeraVe is fragrance free for normal to dry skin with hyaluronic acid and ceramides.  It was recommended to me by a dermatologist and I rotate it into my routine. I have fun trying foundations with unique ingredients (hyaluronic acid, seaweed, polymer technology, silk particles and fibers, time release technology, marasuja oil, light reflecting). In summer lightweight multi-taskers are handy (tinted moisturizers, BB & CC creams).  Yet I also like having a foundation with no skincare. I have the...

IN THE MOOD FOR A REDO (HIGH NECK TOPS)

These looks really get me back in the mood for high neck white tops and all black which I gave up because black near my face makes me look tired unless I wear extra makeup. Lately this is just what I am in the mood for - simple, warm but not bulky, comfortable, flattering. These MM6 Maison Margiela Leather and stretch jersey leggings and these Theory Pittella leather skinny pants could get me restarted. White cutout blouse from Topshop, white lace Altuzarra blouse Who What Wear image  ...

IN THE MOOD FOR POLISH

There is no easier way to feel put together than with nail polish color. Here are some of the new Essie shades that I have tried. The icy frozen lavender color Virgin Snow is nice with paler skin tones and winter white or navy clothes. The bronze color Leggy Legend I thought would only work with darker skin tones and black or gray clothes.  I was wrong! It looked great on pale skin tones. This is a high shine metallic gold copper almost brass color. It looks brown in the bottle but brass on nails. The colors In the lobby and Shall we chalet? are beautiful rich wine shades for any skin tone and great to add...
